Boost
Compressor Surge
When airflow reverses momentarily through the turbo compressor during a sudden throttle lift at boost. Causes fluttering and turbo wear.
Why it matters
Repeated surge events accelerate bearing wear and can damage the compressor wheel over time.
What to look for
Rapid boost oscillations during throttle lift. A blow-off valve or bypass valve should prevent this.
